Anyone with an older Mac Pro G5 machine will know while it's possible to use graphics cards designed for a PC, the downside is there will be no boot screen until you reach the sign-on at the desktop. Not a major inconvenience in most cases, but whenever Mac make security or system updates that require a restart you'll be left in the dark as the updates usually require a new graphics driver. I got fed up having to remove the PC card and swap it with an older 'proper' mac gtx 285 so I could updated the drivers, so I bought this gtx 680 through eBay and flashed it with a Mac ROM (on a PC, though you could use Bootcamp). Worked like a charm, and running really well on Sierra, El Capitan and Yosemite systems (and I can see them all on the startup screen now). No more curses and sore fingers from having to unlatch the awkwardly placed retaining clip on the G5 No 1 expansion slot, and while the card is a few years old it performs really well. And I saved quite a few pounds doing the ROM flash myself instead of buying an official Mac card. Result all round!Read full review
