Here we have a very nice new old stock Triang Minic Ships M741 HMS Vanguard 1:1200. Still with most of the box and the harbour plan. The model has not been used and is as new.
A model which has survived the passage of time very well
This Tri-ang Minic 1:1200 scale model of HMS Vanguard, the last British battleship, was first produced in (I think) 1960 and was available first in blue paintwork and later in grey. In the 1970s Hornby re-issued this model together with a number of others, each on a plastic base with 'glidewheels' - however, it was basically the same model and all variants had rotating gun turrets and cranes.
Although designed for the toy market, the models were surprisingly well detailed and even now stand up well to more modern 1:1250 European models of Vanguard which cost £80 plus. However, the latter are more accurate, especially as regards the secondary armament. It depends what you want.
I would certainly recommend this model if you want a reasonably inexpensive model of Vanguard although care is required as some are offered without masts and with turret damage for example. You would also probably have to pay quite a lot for a mint boxed original Vanguard. Most models will be 'playworn' although you might be lucky and find a reconditioned one.
All in all you get what you pay for and I was very pleased with mine, which fits in well with my other ship models.
The quality is very good and the price very acceptable. I have been keeping an eye out for this model for some time and this example is top notch. Thank you!
