When the only surviving heir to Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, was killed by Gavrilo Princip, a Yugoslav nationalist, on 28 June 1914, his death set in motion a chain of events that resulted in the First World War.
A well acted and historically accurate account of the plot to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie Duchess of Hohenberg. The settings are authentic but the dubbed English voices are sometimes a little indistinct. Rather a pity that the last words of the Duchess to her husband before she died, "For Heaven's sake! What happened to you," were not included. Similarly, the Archduke's touching last words to his wife, "Sophie dear! Sophie dear! Don't die! Stay alive for our children," were eliminated. Apart from this, a very well presented account of the event that led to the outbreak of the First World War and the deaths of some 20 million people.
