I used to have the SUA 1500 UPS and traded it up for one of these cookies. The older model was good, but the new units are much more pro for the price. They have load shedding to squeeze that bit more out of a lenghty mains down scenario as well as power factor correction (only for the connected loads) and efficiency calculations when you stray from the basic functions. The same size unit now covers a kilowatt instead of 970 watts, to show that it is more efficient and it can handle a surging load for a second longer before the toys go everywhere. The direct menu setup is far better for general configuration even if you are not running the ups for a desktop and the ability to see the runtime without having to resort to that powerchute software is highly favoured in my book. My old SUA1500 could run my everyday pc for 90 minutes on a 22Ah battery set, the new SMT1500 can do the same job for 107 minutes, so much less effort all round. You still need to trim the charging voltage to ensure you do not cook your cells too soon even if they are AGM over SLA...The output voltage is bang on sine when on batteries and if you look at the transfer times from main power to batteries, you will have to look hard to see the swap-over as it is less than 3 milliseconds (Your pc won't even notice)... As an electrician, A pc engineer and an electronics enthusiast.. I am impressed at the all round ability of these... I've bought a couple of these now and although the units are around 8 years old they are in good condition with brand new batteries installed for not much more than the cost of the batteries alone. They also come with a years warranty so what's not to like!

the ribbon connecting the front panel with the motherboard has connectors, which is much better than the previous version of the tower - APC Smart-Ups 1500 - that was soldered directly and after some time snapped. the screen is a bonus and is not louder than my previous one.
