    Does a good job

I had an earlier version of the ES 700 for 10 years, but it has lately started to get noisy, so I needed to replace it. Given it worked well for such a long time, my choice of replacement was another ES 700 I am running a desktop PC with 2 printers, and 2 scanners plus 2 modems and wifi, so the ability of the ES 700 to connect to 8 appliances is very useful (4 of the sockets are on battery backup, the other 4 are surge protected but no battery back up) My desktop PC is not a high end machine, but the system includes a 20" monitor, 2 modems connecting to the internet and an internal wi-fi router, all of which need to stay live if we get a power cut. We are in a country area and it is common to get micro power cuts lasting only a second or two. With the UPS connected the PC and routers run without missing a beat when these micro power cuts happen. If there is a serious power cut, the UPS will keep the system powered for 15 minutes. This is long enough to manually save and exit from work, and to manually shut the computer down. If the power cut happens when the PC is unattended, the UPS will keep the system running until there is only 5 minutes of battery power left, and at this point it will shut the computer down automatically. It is easy to set up, and the Powerchute software supplied allows for the customisation of shut down parameters etc. (this needs a connection from the UPS to a USB 2 socket on the PC - a cable is supplied with the ES 700) The battery supplied is a lead acid type and should last about 5 years. It is the same type used in burglar and fire alarms and replacements are readily available The instruction manual supplied is OK but could be more informative. The on screen Powerchute program is easy to use

    BATTERY BACK-UP

Hard to set up as has to be done on PC - Still not got it working, will see how it goes. I am not good with technology. I thought it would just have to be charged and all you need plugged into it, but this is not the case. Very disappointed as have to get someone in to set it up for me as I am disabled.

  • Very quiet in operation, highly recommended.

Unlike UPS units that were around years ago, these are very home user friendly. The 4 + 4 arrangement of "13A" mains sockets are much better than units that need a 4 way extension lead, etc. 4 Sockets are via the battery backed UPS and 4 are just surge protected. In use there is no noise from the unit at all and when the mains is switched off, no buzzing or whistling either, only a few "beeps" to warn the mains has failed. The battery is easily accessed by sliding a cover, no tools required. The battery is an easily to obtain sealed lead acid type that is very common (12V 7AH I think). I am not using it with a computer, so have no interest in the auto shutdown software for use with a computer

  • Plug and play

I used this UPS to back up our fibre broadband hub and provide power to one telephone in the event of a power cut, as we live in a rural area and get these from time to time. it didn't take long to see it in action and with a discrete beep, it provided uninterrupted power and I was able to be online as normal. Works great, just one battery connection to make and the unit works out of the box. The top make of UPS and great value for money.

  • It's a useful UPS

It plugs in and just works. It has proper plugs rather than the type for connecting computers. It doesn't have any USB connection or software, so there are no records of power cuts, but that doesn't matter, really.

  • Excellent, outlasts ISP cab backup power

It works really well, had a few power outages already and its saved me, it shuts down my NAS slowly through the USB cable, and means I have less risk of data loss, once the nas is offline I set it to stay on untill it dies, it manages to keep going for over 40M in some power outages, I know this as my NAS logs show this and so do my internet conection logs as virgin Media's backup power in the street went off before the APC UPS. Virgin Media should get APC UPS's

  • Fabulous piece of kit.

All I wanted was an uninteruptable power supply to stop my camera security system and broadband from dropping out during power cuts, not for computers etc. What a fabulous piece of kit! I tried it out manually and there was not the slightest hesitation when power was cut. Brilliant! So good, I have bought one for the computer.

  • Excellent performance as a home UPS

I have just purchased a replacement for my original ES700 UPS which failed after 13 years of good service. At first I thought I just needed a replacement battery (they only last about 7 years) but APC advised me that the symptoms did not suggest that it was a battery issue this time. I have no hesitation in recommending an ES700 for a home PC situation.

  • Adhesive

Brand new item, though I suspect old stock? All seems ok, but there is a wide strip of warning tape covering one set of sockets. I think this has been on for some time, as it left a lot of adhesive behind. Take care cleaning this off, I had to use acetone, but this also brings off the printing, and the plastic loses its finish. Disappointing on a new item, so hopefully others will find a better solution.

  • A simple single solution

I used it to replace an older UPS that I needed to plugged into an extension lead to power all the required equipment. I now have a very tidy solution without any extra leads. The UPS plugs into my QNAP NAS with its USB cable so that all the automatic shutdown and restart protection in the NAS works properly. Installation was simple and it just works. Great device, happy to recommend it to others
