Cinch to build. Mallards use the deck. Add 5l screen wash bottles to float better

Not actually difficult to build as per the instructions- electric screwdriver always recommended for these flat pack type projects!! Took a little shy of 2hrs... Possibly they’ve modified and improved instructions from other feedback? Did need to adjust the hinges on one side of the roof but not a major issue. TIP 1: If you cannot fit the divider board in the house after putting the roof on, you’ve put roof on wrong way round! TIP 2: if you don’t place the house central on the platform then it will be off balance so the house end will sink slightly as you float on water as it’s heavier! TIP 3: I collected a number of empty 5l & 10l plastic bottles (They need their lids on!) to float the platform better and now it floats a treat! I have arranged them such a way that after a little trial and error rearranging them and trial floating, I have countered the lower/heavier house end of the platform so now it floats higher and level - even when the heron lands on it. TIP 4: Empty bottles - eg. Adblue 10l and screen wash/antifreeze 5l from Kwikfit/F1 / other garages. MAKE SURE YOU WASH THEM OUT PROPERLY FIRST AS YOU DONT WANT TO POLLUTE YOUR OWN POND WATER!! TIP 5: use a series of small-ish eyelets on underside of the platform with some robust plastic-coated rope to first weave a ‘lattice’ in the air gap underneath the platform before you start wedging the bottles in there. This will help masses to stop bottles popping out as you try to lower the platform into the pond. I used ~4m length of rope and I think 9x5l bottles and 1x 10l bottle (directly under the house corner). Needed to rearrange a couple of times to ensure platform was flat. TIP 6: eyelet on outside and rope to tether it to a fixed point in middle of your pond. Be aware that need enough slack in case water rises and falls that it doesn’t affect your platform and start to tilt it from too tight a mooring!!! Bright orange - probably will weather with time like garden furniture often does. Hopefully won’t perish from the water!! Thought about painting it but haven’t yet. Can’t really complain about it at the sold price - if they made it a different colour I’d expect it to cost a fair bit more!! Thanks very much. Hope this helps!!

GOOD DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE, BUT FLIMSY UNTREATED WOOD.

There was no advice - even when I telephoned - on how to prevent untreated wood from rotting, what would be a suitable ecologically-sound product. I used Sadolin Classic . There was no advice on how best to deploy the duck house. I shall see how long it lasts and probably build a better replacement using marine ply.

  • Good quality for money.

Well made for the price. Instructions tell you to fit the 2 sides to the back and front and then put in the base from above. You can't do this since the runners for the divider stop you doing this. You need to fit the back and 2 sides together, slot in the base and then put the front on. It would be very much better if it wasn't coloured orange - brown would be much better. It does stand out like a sore thumb on our pond, and our wild ducks have left the pond since we floated the duck house out. It is rather bright.

  • Great! But small for my ducks

The product is great! I have 2 Aylesbury ducks and it is too small for them if the separator is in place. It has been on my pond for a week, they haven’t used it yet. My husband painted ours really easily

  • Duckingham Palace

Hadn't expected something so well prepared - the joints all fit, the finish is excellent and it all goes together easily. You could just make the instructions a little clearer. I went through them several times before I got the sides the right way round! (OK, probably me but there's more like me.) Now all we want is for the mallards to use it!

  • Really good, floats well

really good, floats well and is a very popular with the terrapin who is basking in the sunshine, entrance is smaller than I thought so no good for the ducks but ideal for moore hens and other small birds
