First off I should state that I'm a massive Space Hulk fan. Loved the board game and this is a really good representation. Compared to modern games like COD etc the graphics are clunky but that's not what this game is about. Your strategy has to be spot on or the Genestealers will wipe you out in a blink of an eye. Can't understand all the negative reviews? I've finished the game using the Blood Angels and I'm now playing it all over again using Space Wolves (this option gets unlocked when you nearly finish the game playing as a Blood Angel). And do you know what the beauty of this game is? Playing it as a Space Wolve squad its like a totally different game! The terminators have different abilities and the Librarian has different powers! As an example if you've read some of the reviews you'll see that when the terminator has lightning claws you might as well use him as cannon fodder as they are useless but when you are playing as a Space Wolf he is bloody awesome! I killed so many Genestealers with him I was cheering him on!
I could rave about this game for ever, I love it and totally addicted to playing it! If you have played the board game you will love this game. It has all the tension and twist and turns of the original such as jamming bolters and assault cannons blowing up just as you need it! But this just makes it more appealing.
Its very hard to finish and you'll have to play some levels 2 or 3 times just to clear the assaults but if it was easy it wouldn't be Space Hulk!
May the Emperor guide you!
CONS:Having played the PS1 space hulk I was ready to be really impressed with the new game - better graphics, better music, awesome animation, eye achingly detailed backdrops and faultless gameplay would be mine!
Alas 'twas not to be. The animation is clunky, the marines wandering about as if drunk, the genestealers have oddly shaped heads (yes odder than usual!) NO MUSIC (the original game's "you have been disembowelled" music was so cool you didn't even mind dying!)
The loading time is ridiculous (I have time for a few rounds of Knights & Dragons on my phone while the level is loading - silver lining)
There are a few bugs like intermittent marine voices and genestealers not burning when on fire - nothing problematic unless the unburnt stealer is the one that tears your face off and eats it.
Considering the sheer power of the PS3 console over the poor old PS1 this game should've been so much better.
PROS:On the plus side it looks like there is an abundance of scenarios.
The backgrounds and 3D are faultless (the trouble is the seemingly intoxicated marines keep blundering into the walls of the faultlessly rendered 3D background)
It remains faithful to the board game we loved so much 25 or so years ago.
It's still fun!
SUM UP: Spend your hard earned pennies on a secondhand copy of the original PS1 game, pop it in your PS3, get your entire squad slaughtered as messily as possible, then sit back, relax and enjoy the chilled out vibe :o)
