This Mercedes ambulance is decorated in white with yellow and green Battenberg effect along the lower sides and registered SH62 XDY, the back is masked to create a yellow and red diagonal stripe effect. Lightbars feature at the front and back of the white roof. Black masking also creates the tinted side and rear windows. The chassis and interior are also black, as are the bumpers, radiator grille, door handles and mirror surrounds. The Scottish Ambulance Service lettering features along the sides in blue accompanied by the colourful Service crest. In addition, the word Ambulance is printed green above the windscreen and in reverse on the bonnet, just like the real thing
Oxford Diecast 76MA004 1/76 Scale Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Ambulance Scottish Ambulance Service OO Gauge Compatible Model
Oxford Diecast have now discontinued 76MA004 in 1/76 Scale which represented a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Ambulance in Scottish Ambulance Service colours. This fully OO Gauge compatible model is amongst the hardest of the Oxford Diecast 76MA*** series of models to find as it doesn't frequently get offered for sale in my experience.
What makes this particular Sprinter so appealing to the Adult and Discerning Collector [the market at which this was aimed] is that 76MA004 is one of only two Sprinter ambulances which Oxford manufactured which carries white as a base-colour: All of the others carried the flourescent yellowy-green as used by the NHS Ambulance Trusts. The Sprinter has many miles left in it with the SAS and therefore this is why I'm so highly disappointed to see when and how this model was discontinued.
It is highly and accurately detailed bearing all the hallmarks which make Oxford the market leader that they are in this field. For a OO Gauge railway modeller you would obviously have to have set your layout north of The Border for this to fit in which is why I feel this is more Adult / Discerning Collector territory ... Not that people don't base or set model railway layouts in Scotland but it would need to be set between 2009 and now for this to correctly feature.
