The Cheif Time Did Not Forget
If for no other reason, this film deserves five stars for drawing our attention to the dignity of a freedom loving Indian Warrior Chief.
The film was good enough for me to search the library for an authentic account of this Chief. The one I read had to be authentic, if only because the author was very hesitant to commit himself to anything, as Chief Crazy Horse lived in a place and time when any account (good, bad, indifferent) did not stand up to any form of scrutiny.
Suffice it to say that he certainly was an Indian Chief who loved the wide open lands, forests, mountains, clean air and riding. The white man was viewed with suspicion, the Chief himself lost his life ("supposedly" is about as near as you can get) to a betrayal by his own people.
Victor Mature plays the Chief with sensitive feeling, a fine performance with a good supporting cast.
