Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Tracy Kidder's House, a fiction novel that tells the story of an American family's renovation of a Victorian mansion in Massachusetts. Published in 1985 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company, this novel is a must-read for architecture enthusiasts and anyone who loves a good family drama. With 313 pages and a weight of 24 ounces, this hardcover book features a dust jacket and is suitable for young adults and adults alike. Whether you're interested in the history of Victorian architecture or just looking for a gripping story, House is sure to captivate you from beginning to end.
I'm re-reading "House' (after twenty years) because I love Tracy Kidder and I remembered this as an excellent, true story. I found the seemingly simple story of a group of carpenters building a house from the ground up, with insight into their lives and the thoughts of the owners and designer, to be both soothing and compelling. I recommend this and all of his other books. (Try 'Mountains Beyond Mountains', the story of Dr Paul Farmer, as your next Kidder book.)
