    A great starter soldering station

I'm not a serious electronics person but still needed something decent. After previous experience with fixed temperature cheap soldering irons not getting hot enough or being too hot, I came across this station from bigclivedotcom. The station is perfect for simple integrated circuits for hobbyists and simple electrical repair. The device comes fitted with a UK plug and is fused. There are a variety of tips provided to suit almost all applications. For the price I cannot fault it. The advantages are: Well built, Adjustable temperature, A variety of tips, Sturdy holder, Plenty of cable, Good thermal capacity, Suits almost all applications in terms of amateur electrical repair and electronics kits. The disadvantages are: The tips are small (don't expect to solder thick wire with this or large electrical components) The holder rusts from the wet sponge just after a few hours. For the price though you cannnot complain, i recommend this for any electronics hobbyist or someone just getting into soldering.

    Budget rework station.

Works ok, but not super quality. But its cheap and cheerful for occasional use. Dont expect any durability if in everyday use though. I have gone through three of these so am qualified to make this statement. Pro use?...Buy a Weller.

  • Good Buy

This is one of the good options for a soldering iron, I bought this after searching youtube for a new soldering iron and came across bigclivedotcom, the soldering iron is good value, however you should consider changing the plug on the end for one that doesn't have a shielded earth cable, also check inside that the earth connections are tight and they are not loose. Other than that there are no problems with this iron, heats up quickly can sustain heat when soldering multiple connections. Also comes with lots of different tips to use.

  • Minor issues

Great price and a decent piece of kit but I did have a couple of minor issues. A replacement plug is provided in the box, not a big deal to change it over. The box on mine was pretty badly damaged prior to dispatch. And it had a very strong oily smell coming from the device. It has dissipated now but it was quite bad out of the box. The station itself works great, some proper Hakko tips to replace the provided ones would be a good idea. Overall though, well worth the price!

  • Absolute Heaven

These are so good for the price and are so quick to reach the heat you want. It is your own preference for the heat but I find setting it for 300c is the best but that is entirely up to you and how quick you work with it. Heats up in a few seconds and maintains the heat too. No matter how small or big the job you have the heat settings for that. One thing I have found with this tool is the parts are so cheap and it is cheaper to get the whole iron part from China as these are one of the better items to come from China. I have ordered 2 spare irons for this and a set of 10 tips and all work perfectly. Sometimes just as easy to change the iron than change the tip. No need to go mad and get one of those silly tip thermometer things as you just set the temperature what is best for you so don't go wasting money on silly tip thermometers. The first thing I did when O received mine was to take the case off and look inside and everything was fine. I checked the security of the earth wire and maybe could do with a little bit of tightening. Please check the plug that comes with it as these are illegal in this country. The earth pin on the plug is sheathed with plastic and that should never be in this country as the earth terminal on the British wall sockets are closer to the wall surface and when you push the plug in it will touch the earth terminal for a split second then the plastic sheaf will take over and render it not earthed, so be careful and maybe you should change the plug. Although the unit is plastic I would still change the plug. Just always remember that the earth pin on any good plug should be solid metal all the way down and not like these sheathed in plastic. You only have to look at the pic and you will see it. The transformer is really quiet and you can hardly hear it coming on and off keeping the temperature correct. If you do buy any spare irons for this then make sure you get the 5 hole ones. I personally think this is the best soldering station on the market today for the price and I suppose you could go out and buy a Hakko but these are just as good.

  • Great soldering station at any price.

I'm not entirely sure what else a soldering station can do for you. This one is very good with a digital temperature display, buttons to control the temperature, a replaceable iron and easily changeable iron tips. The main unit is separate from the iron holder so you are not impaired by cables and have plenty of movement. The main unit and the iron holder do not have pads underneath so can slip around a little so I recommend putting 4 silicon pads on each and this means they stay nicely where they should. Other than that, a very good buy and I've been able to fix some NDSI's with surface mount fuses and wire up the sound / power circuits for my DIY Raspberry PI portable arcade box with included screen and arcade controls search google for "mat DIY Raspberry PI portable arcade box with included screen and arcade controls". I would recommend this product to anyone.

  • So far, so good ...

I'm only giving it four stars because I've only had it a couple of weeks so don't know about its reliability long-term - and I also have no previous experience of using a proper soldering station, but it makes me wonder what I might have done with this as a teenager who was instead wrestling with a huge army surplus iron and germanium transistors ...

  • Katsu Digital Soldering Station (Hakko 936 clone)

Arrived quickly and everything as expected. Can not comment on longevity - it's only just arrived! Pros Comfortable iron with rubber feel grip Metal iron holder Comes with additional tips Heats up quickly Easy to adjust temperature - though can not test the actual temperatures Compact controller unit Cons Nothing at this price ! If I was really picky, I would say that the additional tips could be swapped: change the almost useless 900M-T-K (knife edge), with the much more useful 900M-T-3.2D (Chisel point)

  • Temperature-controlled soldering iron

Excellent value , does what it says on the tin. I set mine to 300 deg C which seems to be right for most things - soldering and desoldering. Heats up very quickly and maintains a stable temperature. Just one niggle: the sponge tray rusts very quickly, so it's worth painting it with a good paint like Hammerite before putting a wet sponge into it. A pity it's not plastic or stainless steel. Otherwise, an excellent substitute for far more expensive. Options.
