Not impressed
This is not a Birtley branded lock as illustrated. The lock barrel is fixed differently. As a result, when fitted, the lock seems to be compressed against the door panel, making it very difficult to turn the handle. My original Birtley handle had no such issues and worked well (until I lost the key). The low price compared to a genuine lock should have been a warning, "Buy cheap and you buy twice". Easy fit garage door lock
After putting up with a wobbly garage door handle and lock for ages it is a treat to have a sturdy one. The handle is strong and well made, it was easy to fit, it is a little stiff but I put that down to the newness. Would recommend this productVerified purchase: YesCondition: New

Good replacement for Birtley handle.
This is reasonable quality replacement for the original lock from Birtley, You can still find the occasional Birtley lock for sale for about 3-4 times the price of this one. The company went belly-up in 2002 so you will have to search hard though. I had to enlarge the centre fitting hole by around 3mm in total to accept the larger spring clip on the back of the lock. The original had a circlip. The centre spindle is quite long and could put a nasty gash in the head of taller persons unless you cut it down first. You would then also need to drill another hole for the security split-pin. Once fitted the handle and lock mechanism were quite stiff but freed up nicely after a spray of lubricating oil. Be aware that you may also need a replacement cam swivel to fit the slightly larger diameter spindle (easier than trying to enlarge the square hole in the original). Great replacement for the original
It is a really good replacement for the original Birtley (now discontinued). The only small issue i had was that I had to open up the centre hole in the garage door with a file as the boss wouldn't quite fit. Overall excellent value for money though.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
