About this product

Product Information

Prince Corum is the last of the Vadhagh, his family and people brutally slain by the Mabden. Vowing to wreak vengeance on the killers, Corum sets out on his terrible quest only to fall in love with a beautiful Mabden woman, and to confront the fury of the Lords of Chaos. For they fear that he is the hero who could tip the balance in their cataclysmic war with the forces of Law and free his world from Chaos's vicious grip. His epic struggle against them and his ultimate victory is only bought at a considerable price. Moorcock's evocation of a rich, dark world, a time of magic, phantasms, cities in the sky, oceans of light and wild flying beasts of bronze is one of the pinnacles of modern imaginative literature.

  • Once more into the breach dear friends.

Whilst I stopped buying Michael Moorcock books regarding the Eternal Champion, Elric, Erekose etc when he started writing for the money and not the public I was recently very ill and not having much to do decided to get back to 'my roots' and refresh my memory of the old stories so I purchased a couple of Terry Pratchett books, these I finished pretty quickly unfortunately so my wife decided to buy me 'stormbringer' as she remembered my ranting about it way back when, so the fuse was lit and I was back in the old routine. Its not too difficult to find yourself immersed in Moorcocks work as he creates such wonderful scenarios. Corum, one manifestation of the eternal champion, is forced to pursue a course of action alien to his nature, peace loving and introspective, when the 'mabden' destroy all the old races apart from him. He is helped, if it can be called that by a mad sorcerer and the eye and hand of 2 supposed dead gods, brothers in fact who warred with each other until all that was left were the eye of one brother and the hand of the other. With these he starts off on his war against the Sword Rulers across all 15 planes of existence. The stories are colourful, mad in places and full of wonders which are in themselves the constructs of a devious mind. How he fares is for you to find out but there as always is a twist, will you work it out before the end or will it catch you by surprise? He is a brilliant writer, childlike in many respects, some of his musings seem as though they were found in other younger books but all in all, superb and recommended reading. Be careful though of any books which the author shares with another writer as these don't have the same imagination not in fact length, when you read any as I did you will feel slightly cheated and that's when you stop reading his works and find another author. Go on buy a cheap Michael Moorcock book off ebay and enjoy.
