  • Fantastic first fountain pen

I recently decided to try a few different non-disposable pens, and after researching fountain pens the Lamy Safari was among the samples I selected. I bought it new for $17 shipped. It seems like many fountain pens look pretentious, and many others look silly- without a lot of options in between. The Lamy Safari is a great option for a business casual environment. It's not going to be mistaken for a Bic, but it's not going to draw attention like a gold-trimmed Montblanc. Mine is "charcoal" in color, and looks great with a hint of metallic reflectiveness. It came with a blue ink cartridge and an adapter. The clip is interesting in appearance, and feels very sturdy. The body doesn't feel cheap or plasticy, and has a subtle texture. The body has flat sides that help keep it from rolling, and viewing windows for the ink supply. It takes a brief moment for ink to begin to flow, but once it does the writing is smooth, and free of skips. The extra-fine nib is still bolder than a ballpoint or the roller ball pens that I use (I don't recall the ball size on them). I don't have another fountain pen to compare it to, but I'm really happy with it.

  • the extra fine nib is quite nice...

i would recommend that you get the extra fine nib, if you write with any pressure. the medium nib is difficult to read if you press hard when you write. the extra fine lamy is about equivalent to the medium of a top-quality fountain pen with a gold-plated nib. the price is quite good. i would also suggest you purchase the lamy ink bladder as well. and i think the waterman inks are best. good luck!

  • Great pen

The pen worked great and arrived much quicker than expected. Much better than my experience with the pilot metropolitan.

Shipping is an issue for all right now, a little slow, but acceptable.

Pen works poorly, even after a thorough cleaning. Disappointed.
