Works marginally on 4" pipes, recommend using it on 3" or smaller pipes
I had my 4" main drain video inspected after two clogs within 2 weeks. They found a spot about 15 feet from my cleanout that had a bunch of fine roots intruding. They wanted me to replace the whole section of pipe using trenchless methods for $7000. I said no way. I treated it with RootX foaming root killer but a week later it clogged again since it takes up to 6 weeks for the roots to rot away. After renting a power snake for the third time I decided to buy this for half what it cost me to rent the power snake once. When it clogged again I used this tool. I would say that it is not really designed for 4" pipe since it had a tendency to twist and tangle up with any resistance. It might be OK with a 3" pipe. I had to cut the auger to the approximate length to the clog and I cut a 24" piece of 2" ABS pipe to guide it into the 2-way cleanout. The 2" pipe kept it from curling and tangling near the cleanout. I then hand fed the auger in until it was at the clog. Then I used a drill to slowly turn it to clear the clog. It kept tangling each time it caught on the clog at which point I had to pull it out and remove any debris in the auger (usually toilet paper). After several times doing this it finally cleared. I continued to do it till I got some fine roots caught in the auger. I figured that was what was catching the toilet paper and am waiting to see if the clog reoccurs. If it does, at least I know don't have to rent a snake again!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Wrong for Drill but good on its own

Basic drain cable
I bought this cable to replace a broken 3/8 cable and when I tried to use this the cable it is way too flexible and not useable and I wish I had read that it's not a cable with a core inside which you need to snake a drain .especially in galvanized or cast iron.
