Every credible reviewer of headphones or speakers (and any other audio equipment) will say such judgments made are extremely subjective. I think it is possible to hear the "sound stage" or instrument placement stability. However, to know precisely the cause of the end result is difficult, which is why reviews use the same source material over and over again. But, comparisons and resulting rankings are still very subjective and dependent on the electrical interaction of equipment be used. Unless you are a playing/practicing musician, can you identify correctly the difference between 440 Hz and 441 Hz? Can you identify the difference in sound between a "Strad" and a Guarneri? My point is that not only is hearing the truth difficult, but hearing it with any precision is perhaps impossible. EXCEPT voice! Most people who listen to music, certainly records, know that the ear is highly optimized for listening to the spoken word. Now simply add music. Can you understand the lyrics? Can you find well performed, well recorded and well produced lyrical music. Can you hear the difference well enunciated lyrics between one set of phones/speakers and another? Yes! If the voice is clear and understandable, the rest must follow. That's why these phones are so good.Read full review

I've had several quality sets of headphones over the last forty years or so. These are the best so far. Quality construction, good sound, resilient, great for studio use in mastering. Headband construction is metal covered in removable padding. Excellent realistic bass similar to that from a 10 inch bass speaker on monitors, clean treble. Open ported so not as suitable for microphone recording/monitoring. Suitable for audiophile listening. Comfortable to wear for long periods. Earpads and headband are replaceable by both manufacturer and third parties. 250 ohm so requires substantial driving. I found they with a tablet, but on pretty much full volume to give reasonable listening level indoors.

I use the Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO for electric guitar practise. This is the second DT990 that I have had. My original is still going, but wanted to update with a new set. This product is amazing. Hard wearing and reliable. Sound is detailed and firm. Comfortable to use over extended periods of time. Also I like the options of being able to replace just about any part. Highly recommended.

Quite simply these are excellent headphones, comfortable, durable and most important of all they have first rate sound quality. The comfort means they can be worn for long periods of time and they are genuine over ear headphones. The ear pads are easily replaced and are affordably priced. Durability is excellent and all parts can be replaced. All in all these are highly recommended.

I use DT770s for isolation mixing as they are closed back. I have always been impressed with the detail of sound. I purchased the 990s for studio mixing, they are very similar to the others but a little more "natural" sounding. Very accurate sound and very comfortable to wear for long sessions. Very impressed!
