The Simple Butterfly Can Opener
My mother used a can opener such as this one and I feel sure she had the same one all the while I was growing up. I have tried others but feel so much happier with the old reliable simple butterfly can opener (or tin opener as we used to call before we went all Americanised). I bought two because aged 65 I am hoping they last until I personally have no need for them. No wish to be morbid but, no doubt, my family will keep them working after I am long gone. I will take one on holiday with me as well, just in case where we are going has something more sophisticated and yet I will not like. Call me a fusspot but simple is sometimes the best. Best kind of tin opener
This is the most basic of tin openers, and the best kind in my opinion. I used to have one like this years ago but I lost it moving house. So since then I've had several replacements, all more modern, and all pretty rubbish to use and basically they'd stop being as effective as they should be. So I went on ebay to look for the good old style tin opener and bought this one. The price is very cheap. When I received the tin opener I could see it was sturdy and the blade section looked good and steady with no movement at all and a good sharp edge. Opens tins like nothing. Some people don't like this openers because of the butterfly mechanism can hurt a little on tougher tines but honesty, if that is the case use your kitchen towel when twisting. Simple and effective design, well worth it.

Can opener, opens cans
Before I bought this amazing device I was unable to open cans. I used to have to use knives screwdrivers or whatever else I could find that was sharp. sometimes I couldn't get all the beans out of the can, just the tomato sauce, which made for a terrible bean on toast. Cans now opened!!
Seeing this one it reminded me of design for these from many years ago. They are simple, strong and all metal construction. We have been using it for months and it just does the job and I can't see how it can fail not to open tin cans. No rust, well made, simple functional. (We had bought three expensive more modern designs can / tin openers and found that they were not well made where needed and appealed to the appearance of their design rather than to function and all failed having some plastic pieces in areas of stress and failed.)Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
