NotesA real one-of-a-kind, Bobbie Gentry did her own stunts in the music industry. One of the first popular female artists to compose and produce her own work, Gentry also arranged her own shows, did her own wardrobe, and controlled just about every other piece of her career too. Not only that-she was incredibly talented. She made waves in country, pop and soul equally before retiring, and this Greatest Hits album is a testament: unshakeable, powerful and sure of herself in every track.
I've been wanting this 💿 for a long while because of songs like "Ode To Billie Joe" & "Fancy". I heard a song on the radio title"Fancy" sung by Reba McEntire & composed by Bobbie Gentry, but never heard of Gentry's version until I listen to it on YouTube. Reba's version became a hit on radio & a must watch video about a 18 year old girl name Fancy Rae Baker with a sick mother & a baby brother was forced to be a prostitute to feed her infant sibling & her dying mother after the father deserted the family & the rest is they say is history.
