Sheer Excellence!
I would like to give this book ten stars if I could. I read it within two days and just could not put it down. Melissa is on holiday with her arrogant boyfriend Liam, in the beautiful village of Kimmeridge in Dorset. As he is refusing to spend any time with her (preferring to surf ) she decides to check out the nearby village of Tyneham, which was requisitioned by the Minisitry of Defence during the second world war and has remained a huge "Target Practice" to this very day. On this particular day there is a ceremony to re-open the village to the public on certain days when the ministry are not using it. Melissa attends the event and meets a famous celebrity historian Guy Cameron. She visits Tyneham House, which belonged to the wealthy land owners Albert and Veronica and on seeing the photograph of the couple on the display board, she can't help but notice that they don't look quite as happy as they seem. The book then goes from chapters about Albert and Veronica in 1943 to the special relationship that develops between Guy and Melissa in 2018. This book is a real page turner, it's brilliantly written, exciting, funny, heart wrenching and just fabulous. I can usually guess the ending of most books, but not this one as it was so cleverly written. I have visited Tyneham on a number of occasions over the years and I have felt it's magic too. Fantastic debut book
If you are a fan of dual time books with a bit of a mystery involved, this book is a must. It's in a similar vein to the novels by established writers such as Rachel Hore and Lucinda Riley but in my opinion, it's far better. Its slightly shorter but this is where it wins as it doesn't feel like it's unnecessarily padded out to get the desired page count. Its a well written book and very difficult to put down.
