Gate : Well worth a viewing
As an isekai ( Another world ) anime, it is different from all the others. The main character is not an overpowered god-like person...he's just an ordinary man who loves anime and manga. The fact he's a soldier in the Japanese army is treated like a joke, lazy and constantly trying to shirk responsibility. Plot : Yoji Itami ( Main character ) is looking forward to the annual anime convention when a mysterious gate appears and monsters and warriors appear from the gate and attack the civilians. He rescues some people and the JSDF ( japan's Self Defense Force ) repel the invasion, and Itami is rewarded for his action on that day and is promoted. He becomes part of the JSDF force who goes through the gate to see whats on the other side and fights the enemy there. Throughout the 2 series on the discs, Itami has many adventures, gaining the trust of a collection of pretty girls, including the princess of the empire state, a young mage, an elf ( who he rescues from a well after her village is attacked by a dragon ) and a demi-god emmissary of Emloy.....Rory mercury ( AKA Rory the Reaper ). The show take place in the other world, showing the JDSF slowly making friends and allies and back in Japan, where politics and other nations try to force access to the other world for their own reasons. Well worth a watch......funny and sad, no overpowered main character, just an ordinary guy, thrown into an extraordinary situation and his many ways to try to overcome them.....mostly funny solutions.
