Educational for little ones as an introduction to slot car racing but Aurora AFX better.
As a first scalextric set for 5-7 year olds this is a good buy. The cars hold the track really well, perhaps too well to be challenging but great for young ones who might get frustrated if cars keep crashing off. It is educational in the ability to construct different circuits and putting them together and dismantling them. In understanding how electricity works and flows through a conductor. In how to keep the cars and track maintained to keep working well.
However Mini Scalextric is inferior to the rival Aurora product in that you can only construct 2 lane circuits due to the track options available. Aurora permits 4 lane racing which makes it more interesting in this scale. Also the contacts on the cars are spring loaded plates in Aurora cars but are braids in Mini Scalextric which means if you push them backwards you mess up the braids!
That said the cars will run on Aurora track so you work around the issue.
