    Bang for the bucks

Was a little causious about it at first as I had bought a Peavey 6505 mini. It was really designed for metal and hard heavy rock. The TM 18 is built very well and comes with a carring case which is VERY handy. It can manage great over drives for heavey material and still manages to clean up very nicely for blues or top forty. The clean channel is also very flexible leaning more to it's clean designation but can still chunk it up as a perfect compliment to the Lead channel. Also, takes pedals well and has plenty of power for all jam situations and small venues. Plus the front panel is very easy to read and make adjustments w/o having to use a flashlight or squinting to figure out what's going on, very useful and nice looking as well.

    Almost, but not quite....

I was looking for a low power tube amp that I can crank up for natural tube distortion. I was looking at the Tubemeister 18 and the Carvin V3 micro. Took a chance on the tubemeister based on reviews and online videos. Some mentioned the difference in volume output between the lead and clean channels. It is actually quite noticeable. The drive channel is a lot louder than the clean channel. The drive channel is OK, not great. You can get decent classic rock distortion. Definitely not metal, unless you run an overdrive in front of then lead channel. Even then, it's really not what I'm looking for. I've swapped the preamp tubes a few times, and still haven't gotten a distortion sound that is acceptable to me. Overall, it sounds ok. The clean channel does sound good with my reverb pedal. I'll keep this for awhile, try some other tubes, and probably end up selling it.

  • Almost great

The versatility of the amp is great. if you don't like the sound it very easy to change tubes or add pedals. Personally I've tried both. The effects loop works flawlessly. I've upgraded the tubes and now love the sound without pedals. for the price this is a very good deal. If it had some high quality tubes it would be a five star item.

  • H&K Tubemeister 18 Tube Head

I decided to take a chance on this H&K compact 18 watt 2 channel head. I normally use Orange and Fender, but wanted another compact amp head that combines the characteristics of both in an all-tube unit with an Effects Loop. Glad I found it in this H&K Tubemeister 18! While this head does not have Reverb, this little head has amazing tone for it's size and 2 channels with a dedicated Clean Channel that is astonishing. The 3 band EQ is quite effective and Treble is nice and bright, close to a Fender clean. The Lead Channel provides a very good distorted crunch, you can dial the EQ on it or add a nice Boost/EQ pedal in the Loop. There is also a Lead Channel boost to add more gain and volume that can provide strong thrash metal distortion. If you want that Orange type 4 stage gain through this amp, you can easily put a distortion pedal in front of this head to achieve full assault crunch! 5 Stars!!

  • Classic Hughes and Kettner tones in a little monster of an amp!

Classic Hughes and Kettner tones in a little monster of an amp! Plugged it into a 12 x 2 cabinet and DAMN! this thing is beautiful to listen to. Clean or over driven, this amp is a pleasure to play guitar on. However when overdriven the nuanced variances between different guitars are not well appreciated. The overdrive is more muddy and less nuanced in my opinion. Comparing different strat styles here with different pick-up combinations. Tele sounds different. Chambered SG style sounded the same as other strat style guitars with humbuckers. Parker and Ibanez S series with infiniti 2 pickups sounded distinctly different. Have not played neodymium pickups on it yet but I'm hoping that will clear up some of the mud.

  • Amazing

I have owned many amps including a Fender hot rod deluxe, blackstar, and Marshall. I must say that in my 20 years playing guitar, this is my favorite amp. Sounds phenomenal. Responds beautifully to the way one plays. Dynamics are played easily. Just all around, great amp. You will not regret this purchase.

  • Excellent versatile amp.

This amp has a wide range of tone from crystal clean to heavy metal dirty. Change out the generic tubes. I put in a set of J.J's from eurotubes, the gold pin option retube set. What a big difference. I love it, perfect for me.

  • Tubemeister 18

The amp has great articulation and warmth even as you add gain. The aesthetic of the unit matches the quality of the operation--a cool blue led with plexi. The di and wattage selector are good but are one improvement I'd make to the amp. If the di had a selector for pre/post gain stage that would be nice. Overall it is a great amp and I am very happy with it!
