  • Had to return

While I think the unit would be fine for anybody who is setting up a recording system, my situation was unique. I already had a system in place and thought my Tascam 1641 had died. I purchased this unit to replace mine, and for the most part, it worked just fine, except for some reason, the SP/DIF output wasn't as loud as the one in my 1641. With this knowledge, I started investigating why my 1641 had died and found it was just a hardware issue that I was able to fix. I then returned the 600, with no problems from the purchaser. Because the digital output of the 600 was weaker than the 1641, it created signal issues within my system. Because my system was based around the 1641, I guess I really needed another 1641 to keep my system in place as I had it. I don't see a problem with the 600 for someone who needs a good little multitrack unit. It has a clean sound with no other issues I could find, except for the weaker digital output. In another situation, this wouldn't have been an issue. The reason I chose that it wasn't enjoyable is because I had to send it back. I would have kept it, if the digital output would have been on par with my 1641 unit. Even after fixing my unit, I could have used the 600 for a backup.
