About this product

Product Information

Get optimized performance, reliable coverage, and security with the D-Link AC1200 DIR-860L 4-Port Gigabit Wireless-N Router. Packed with advanced technologies and robust features, this powerful router delivers high-speed wireless AC connectivity and whole-home coverage to all your Wi-Fi hardware. Plus, it gives you dual-band advantage for flexible, intuitive, and interference-free bandwidth. With its built-in support for Cloud management, you can also conveniently monitor, control, and manage your local area network (LAN), even while away from home. Modern-day households are connecting more devices to the Internet than ever before, where the majority of users are simultaneously doing bandwidth-intensive applications. More and more people are streaming high-definition movies to their Smart televisions, video chatting with family and friends, and playing games against opponents from halfway around the world. With this D-Link router powering your system, common performance issues, such as lag and buffering, are significantly minimized so you can enjoy these online activities. Integrated with four gigabit Ethernet ports, the D-Link DIR-860L router enables you to expand your LAN by linking up to four wired devices, including your desktop computers, laptops, printers, and gaming consoles. Each port delivers 10 times the transmission speed of fast Ethernet or up to 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps). To share your Internet connection among your networked equipment, easily plug your cable modem into the built-in gigabit wide area network (WAN) port. Experience lightning-fast wireless connections at up to 1,200 Mbps. Plus, like most D-Link routers, this unit is also interoperable with older wireless networking standards, so you can seamlessly integrate your existing a/b/g/n wireless devices into your system without having to worry about compatibility problems. The DIR-860L comes with embedded support for the innovative dual-band technology. This feature creates two separate wireless networks that operate simultaneously on 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) and 5 GHz frequencies. Browse the Internet, chat with friends, and check emails on the more widely used but interference-prone 2.4 GHz frequency. Processes that require a higher bandwidth, such as video conferencing and playing games, can be performed on the much cleaner and faster 5 GHz frequency. Whatever you love doing online, the DIR-860L delivers optimum performance and enhanced bandwidth efficiency. Drawing on another cutting-edge technology, this D-Link router offers the SmartBeam feature to increase coverage and improve signal strength throughout your home. With SmartBeam, this AC1200 device focuses and directs wireless signals in the direction of your Wi-Fi equipment for you to get faster, clearer, and stronger Wi-Fi connectivity. SmartBeam helps eliminate dead zones so you can stay connected to the Internet from anywhere in your home. This D-Link product comes with preset security enhancements to keep your system secure from intruders and other potential online attacks. These include password-encryption policies and a reinforced firewall system using network address translation and stateful packet inspection. Other advanced features include parental control support, guest zone support, Internet address (IP)v6, quality of service, mydlink SharePort for streaming media content, and mydlink SharePort Plus for printing sharing. Setup is a breeze with this wireless D-Link unit. You can either install the device using the built-in Web-based interface, or you can just download the free QRS mobile app to configure and deploy the router from your smartphone. For maximum performance that lasts, the D-Link AC1200 DIR-860L dual-band gigabit wireless router easily keeps up with you and your family’s growing Internet usage.

  • Not Quite the Range I was expecting

First off, I wound up buying this model due to tests showing the best WiFi coverage in the category. Not sure that I can say it's any better than my old Linksys from that perspective. Now, from a performance perspective, it's Fast! I get about 90Mbits download from Comcast and speedtest from my laptop on wired Gig-E get me the full 90 and wireless get's me the full 90. On my linksys, I was getting about 26 at best. I have it running in bridge mode since I have a dedicated Firewall so I cannot evaluate any of the other features.

  • Pretty good, no complaints

I was looking for a 5ghz router to use in client mode with DD-WRT and this ended up working great for the price. DD-WRT did take a while to successfully flash, I ended up flashing an earlier version and then upgrading the fireware from there. There is an emergency flash UI in case flashing the fireware fails so that's a great bonus. Looking online other users have reported spotty wifi on 5ghz so your millage may very. My computer is hooked up through ethernet and then the router is connecting to my main wifi network. This combined with DD-WRT may be the reasons why I haven't experienced this. Again, your millage may very when buying used.

  • Good design and working great

It is an old design but the price is much cheaper than the new AC. If you need speed of 100 - 300 Mbps this is good enough for you at a lower price

  • Took a while, but it works fine.

Initially I had real trouble setting it up. Even after going through the D Link setup wizard a number of times, my computer said "connected, no internet". I emailed the seller and he advised to press the reset button for 30 seconds after turning on the power. After that, everything worked smoothly and there have been no subsequent problems.

  • Glad I bought

A good router for the price. My internet provider rates their service at 200Mbps. I get 190M via 5G WiFi and 230M via the ethernet port. Setup is intuitive, lots more features in there than I will ever use.

  • Good price

It's only been a month, so it's too soon to tell how it will hold up. It's been awhile since I set up a router so I must have doing something wrong. I wanted to set up unique names and passwords and could not get this to work, so I just used the default ones.

  • Excellent basic 5Ghz wireless router.

A Good Router, at a Good price if you need to get into 5Ghz. I have a large single story home with an addition of a family/media/game room, and where I needed a wireless extender to reach the room, it's no longer the case, and I can stream with my ROKU in happiness, and surf the web with ease on my Chromebook, but the 2.4Ghz range is better then the 5Ghz depending on the time of day, and weather. However just to get a bit further in my back, front, and side yards I will be adding a couple of D-Link 5Ghz extenders. Far as the setup of this router goes, if you have any past experience setting up routers from a web interface you should have no troubles with this one, just make sure to download the last firmware update in 2 steps with the stable one first, and, and the beta ver. 2nd, or you could risk bricking in the router. Over excellent deal on a basic 5Ghz wireless router.

  • Basic useful WIFI Router

Not the best router, but a good value at $40, and a good access point. I use these as extra WIFI Access Points around the house by turning off the DHCP server and ignoring the WAN port, just use the LAN port. You will need to set the LAN IP address manually to a static value. This works fine if you have just one subnet in your network. If you're trying to run multiple subnets, this still works, but the PC from which you manage the router/access point must be in the same subnet as DIR-860L. If you're a hacker, you can get around this limitation, but if you're using multiple subnets, don't use this router for an access point, use a DAP-1650 instead.

  • Easy user interface

I'm impressed. The web page user interface is much easier to use than the one the DIR-615 had. And the router has two Wi-Fi networks, (I'm using the faster one for the laptop, and the slower one for the phones). And two more, if you want them, for guests. All password protected. Two disappointments: when you make a network invisible, you can't connect to it. That may be a bug. And, I haven't found a way to limit devices to only the MAC addresses you specify, like you could with the DIR-615.

  • Great product, fantastic price

The product works great. I was thinking about getting Google's new wireless router. Got this one instead.. Best decision I've made in months. Setup was seamless, connected all the devices without any issue. I would highly recommend.
