Picture quality is very good, and the unit functions well, though the remote and it's features come up short. The remote key layout was not thought out very well. Play button should be larger than the other keys, and there's no size button. My old player had a very handy feature for enlarging the picture, which is great for credits and viewing details in pause mode. As far as the player itself goes I'm happy. Works well, for copying SACD's. No idea about video performance.
I bought the S5100 for an atypical application. I don't use it in the normal fashion, that is, to watch video, so I can't comment on the picture quality or any of the normal, intended functions. I use it to copy DSD audio from SACD's (super audio compact discs) to my music server. Works just fine for that, but can't comment on its video performance. Lucky find
This is a replacement for the exact same model that I had and used for many years. And then the old one died. I have a 3D TV--which is also quite old now--that requires a 3D DVD BluRay player and I was lucky to find this exact same one--which is also all region, like the old one was. I did not install it myself,,,,I had a professional do it--so I cannot say how easy or hard it is to install. Great picture quality! Can play/rip SACDs.
I bought it to rip my SACD collection, worked perfectly for that job. Also proved to be a great blu-ray player with good image quality which loads the discs reasonably fast. It's slightly slow to load Netflix but it runs fine, as does YouTube. I have never undated the firmware. Cheap feeling remote control but it works well enough.
