Netgear WNCE3001 Adapter/Bridge. A useful device!
This device (for those who do not know what it is) is used to make a device with a network port but does NOT have WIFI, WIFI capable. It can also be used if a device with WIFI is slow or is no longer working. It is DUAL BAND capable. Again for those who do not know what that means. Older routers (and some still for sale) are single band transmitting and receiving on the 2.4ghz band. This band has become very crowded. Newer routers operate on an additional 5ghz band as well as the 2.4ghz. This Netgear bridge can work at a maximum of 300Mbps. It works with 802 11a, 802.11n, 802.11g, 802.11b protocols. An example of its use in my case is my XBOX360. Although it is only 1 room away from my router it will only connect over WiFi at 22Mbps. 13 download and 12 upload. XBOX360 works only on 2.4ghz band. With this device I get 33 upload and 20 download using the 5ghz band which has a faster capability as well as better range. This is only one example of how it can be used. Another would be a Blu-Ray player that only has a wired network connection and no WIFI, or even (again in my case) a Smart TV with crappy WiFi such as my Vizio 60" smart TV (which has terrible range and only works on 2.4ghz single band). By using the wired port on any device you gain the ability to add WIFI as well as adding dual band. Just FYI as to my setup. I am using a Netgear AC1900 R7000 Nighthawk Router. A Netgear RX7000 AC1900 Range Extender (for downstairs). A Netgear CM500 Cable Modem getting 200Mbps down and 20Mbps up from Time Warner Cable. Also note that you can use a range extender if you have multiple items you wish to connect such as a game system, Blu-ray and smart TV as you get 4 ports to connect wired devices as well as adding WIFI range extension (this is what I use for my smart TV and Home Theater receiver as I can use the high speed 5ghz band which works great for streaming HD content). This device only has a single port. Its pretty small and works reasonably well. Once configured you can simply move it to where you need it and plug it into the device you want to connect to WIFI without any re-configuring. I must admit I expected better speeds on my speed test with the XBOX then I got, but the link connection speed says 300Mbps (in the setup screen) so my slower speeds may just be how fast Microsoft is sending/receiving during my test. Good product with some reservations
Both the NetGear WNCE3001 & 2001 are great products for those without an Ethernet port close by. The 3001 & 2001 provide a remote station with an Ethernet port so you can connect your remote network device. common uses are for when DSL or Fioptics internet service is provided only the ground floor of a bldg via a WIFI router. All connected computers must then connect via WIFI which is no problem with a new computer, all have WIFI. However if you have an older computer that only has an Ethernet connection you must use a device like these NetGear wireless adapters. Both of these products work flawlessly once the connection is made, but therein lies the catch. It isn't always easy to make that connection. The problem seems only to be when the computer is first started up, like in the mornings at the begging of the day. Once the connection is made it is very reliable. Even using the WPS connecting process, connecting is still be hit and miss. The only solution seems to be to allow the computer starting up to operate a full 10 minutes before attempting to log on to the internet. If you try to log on and the connection (between the router and the NetGear bridges) hasn't been made you must restart the computer. The actual required start up time varies from less than a minute to the magic 10 minute mark. This can be very irritating until everybody understands and abides by the 10 minute rule. We know of no other solution, NetGear offers no apparent solution. But these products do work and work well albeit evoke some short tempers on a regular basis.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

The Netgear WNC 3001 is an excellent and compact WiFi adapter. its small, extremely easy to setup and can be used to provide wireless access to network devices without WiFi capabilities or as a CPE to extend the reach of a device with limited resources. It also supports dual band connections (2.4 and 5 GHz) 802.11 n & ac providing very high transfer rates, making it ideal for video streamimg even in other rooms, 40 or 50 feet from the main Access Point. Smart way to get 5ghz on a PS4!
I live in a very WiFi noisy neighbourhood. I was lucky to get 12Mbps on my 90Mbps fiber optic network. Why Sony didn't make 5ghz available on the internal radio is way beyond me. Anyway, after installing this on my PS4, my download speeds are at 70Mbps! I can now stream my high definition movies flawlessly from my media PC, located another room. I almost broke down and wired an ethernet cable under my house, before finding this ingenious solution! 2020 wifi?
For being 2020 you would think everything is wifi enabled...unfortunately there's still those system that for much advanced they've become are still relying on ethernet cable. Great way to convert ethernet to wireless
I had a weak signal on an audio streaming component and no ethernet ports close by. This was the perfect solution to my problem. By converting from ethernet to wireless, I was able to attach a a 2.4 ghz. only component to my 5 ghz channel which was much less noisy and has a stronger signal.
