This neat and easily installed gas strut kit will solve that problem and replaces the original door stopper. The gas strut will hold the door in place when open, even if you have a large spare wheel on the back of the door too. This kit will assist in the opening of the rear door too with a smoother and more controlled movement. This kit comes complete with fittings and instructions. They are simple to install, please see our photos from our workshop to show how this fits. Defender gas strut conversion
The kit itself is well made and fitting instructions are easy to follow. However, the geometry of the brackets means it doesn’t clear the door card when closing, popping the corner away from the door frame. A quick internet search indicates many others purchasers have had the same issue.
