A good tool at a great price.
Do not expect this plane to be usable straight out of the box, as with many new planes THEY MUST BE SET-UP FIRST. View a couple of YouTube videos on how this is done, follow their setup and you'll have an excellent tool at a fantastic price. In response to a previous reviewer, the blade is not blunt as such, it comes factory ground, the honing and sharpening are left up to you. This is a nice heavy plane and mine came with wooden handles, the sanding of the sole took sometime but was well worth it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the blade had been machined flat, so smoothing the back of the blade to ensure there were no high or low spots, was easy. I'm seriously thinking of buying another as this is as good as my old Stanley no4 which got "borrowed". So I broke down and did buy a second one to use as a scrub plane, like the first, it needed sanding and fettling, but I don’t mind that because if this had been done for me at the manufacture, I would be paying considerably more. That’s why the price is so competitive and the other plus is, I get a great plane, fettled and finished to my personal liking. Low quality, can be made good.
Plane adjustments can set and hold blade firmly but blade is very dull and requires lots of sharpening. If you're willing to spend the time sorting the blade, it would make a perfectly useable plane for very little money.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
