  • Great value for money, look great and decent quality too.

Short version: Absolutely brilliant, if you know what to expect from coilies. The install: These arrived quicker than I was expecting, still in their original box, all very well packaged. Everything that was needed was included. I armed myself with an online guide to e39 coilover installs and the near useless Haynes manual, coil spring compressors, two car jacks, a 110v rattle gun (highly recommended), a big hammer, A BOAT LOAD OF PENETRATING SPRAY (go buy some good stuff, not just WD40, thank me later) and a socket set, I performed the swap on my drive, it took around 12 hours to complete the swap. The product: They look great. They feel weighty and solid. They're marginally lighter than the stock e39 coils and struts, not much in it though.. Fitting them was a piece of cake, it's removing the old ones that sucks. They pretty much bolted right in with about 2% faff. Hardest part was the rears, I had to use my second jack to jack the strut and spring up about 2 inches to get the bolt in, that was literally the hardest part (of install, removing 17 year old OEM was awful). Anyone with moderate spanner skills will eat this install for breakfast. On the car: After I raised the suspension... (about half way on the windings is about a 50 - 60mm drop, was a tad too much for my tastes, wound all the way down, they DUMP your car to the floor almost, looks cool, but good luck driving anywhere). I'm about 3/7th of the way down the adjuster and you can just see the tread on my tyres. Looks fantastic! The ride: Is no where near as bad as I was expecting!!! In fact, it's pretty damn decent. It's a *bit* bouncy, as in you can now really feel every undulation in the road. But if you're adding coilovers, you were expecting that. If you've never had coilies before and you were expecting OEM ride smoothness, you'd be disappointed. If you've ridden in your mate's slammed, lowering spring bodged ride, then you'll be well chuffed. Car sticks like glue to the road. Zero! body roll. Speed bumps - no issues at 15 - 20 mph! NO BOTTOMING OUT! None. I've put 700 miles on the car, country lanes, town, motorway, and no bangs, grinds or otherwise disconcerting sounds - in fact the car is quieter on the road noise front. They do act as suspension, as in they're not like having welded solid rods for struts. My three youngsters all fall asleep in the back in minutes - so the ride really can't be that bad! Even the missus remarked on the fact the ride was way better than she was expecting - she actually prefers it to the spongy, boaty, 120k mile original OEM ride and she's in no way a car girl. Long and short, these are great. I'd never heard of TA Technics before either. But I'd use them again, for sure! Only one minor con, and it's REALLY MINOR. The front strut top mount nut is 1mm too big for an easy life. The OEM top mount nut fits a standard spark plug socket (21mm?) which means you can get a spanner and a hex key on the go at the same time for tightening up. The supplied is 1mm bigger (22mm?) and so you'd need to go and buy a special socket for the job. I just reused the OEM one. Bit naughty, but it's a nut you can easily get to, so you can inspect it if you're worried. That's it. The rest was all unicorns and VANOS! :)
