SynopsisThe Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns is a comprehensive reference book written by Nicolas Slonimsky. The book contains a vast collection of scales and melodic patterns that are organized in a systematic manner. It is an essential resource for musicians, composers, and music students who are looking to expand their knowledge of music theory and composition. The book covers a range of scales and patterns, from the most basic to the most complex, and includes examples from a variety of musical genres. The Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns is a valuable tool for anyone looking to improve their understanding of music and enhance their creativity in composition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
This is a approach to scales that was never taught in college. The pallet of different tonal approaches and the variety of sounds are endless. I understand why so many great musicians look to this book for inspiration. This was a favorite of John Coltrane and Allan Holdsworth and you can hear the influence just playing through some of the exercises.
