  • Excellent embedded toolkit part

Bought this to replace an incorrectly pinned ValueLine null-modem cable. Was half the price of the cable, including shipping. And arrived in a few days to Sweden. It allows me to plug my RS-232-to-USB adapter straight into the ARM board I am developing for, without a cable. Since the dongle already has a cable, this reduces clutter. If I ever NEED a cable for range I can simply use a standard RS-232 DTE-DCE cable which are easier to come by and cheaper. The adapter has two female DB9 contacts with screws on them, usually mates up with a male DB9 with screw sockets. If this is not the case, a set of 4 hex socket screws are also included. Very nice! My only complain is that it is slightly bulky and heavy, but less so than the cable it replaces. The board's DB9 connector gets some strain. Keep this in mind if you plan on using it in tight spaces or if it will stick out in a server room. But then again, a standard cable will alleviate those concerns and still cost less than a normal null-modem cable.

  • It just works

It worked perfectly - converting my straight serial to a crossover cable.
