I purchased this Xpelair in order to replace our old fan which had given us 14 years of service. This updated version shares a lot of the components from the previous GXC6 whose design dates back to the 1960's. The mounting plate is the same as the old fan which makes it easier to mount. However this fan has a lot more plastic parts than the previous model but it is lighter as a result and has a higher extraction rate than the old fan. The old fan managed around 150 litres of air per hour while this one has double the extraction rate. I also noted that the pull cord is now mounted on a bit of plastic at the side of the fan whilst the previous version had a robust metal spring loaded switch on the top. The shutter box is held on by two release buttons instead of one and the plastic feels thicker than the old one. Overall it is a great quality fan but is unlikely to be as popular as its predecessor { The mk2} due to lack of robustness.
