USB3 at USB2 prices?
Although USB3 has been around for a while now, there have not been many audio interfaces that take advantage of the higher speeds offered. The greater bandwidth and lower latency that can be achieved with a well implemented USB3 interface should make the latest iteration a no-brainer for anybody who plays VST or other virtual instruments, and anybody who wants to use their computer for live recordings whilst accurately monitoring the performance, or, indeed, pretty much anybody. Until the Zoom UAC-2 appeared, the price of a USB3 audio interface was a little prohibitive for people operating on a budget, but now even paupers like me can afford to claw their way up onto the next rung of the technological ladder. This bundle, with the AKG K702 headphones, is the best bargain I have bought all year. My ears would hug you, if only they were a little larger and flappier. Works great with OSX.
Had an Edirol FA-101 which was made obsolete thanks to recent OSC software updates. Thanks Apple!!! So, looked around for a new USB-3 audio device, and this was the (only) obvious choice. Decided on the UAC-2 rather than the UAC-8 (since the UAC-4 never went into production). Works well with Cubase, Logic Pro X, GarageBand. Can also run my MacBook for about three hours with this plugged in, and using MainStage for guitar. Good sturdy unit. Feels well made. No real teething or usage problems.
