The Acer H Series Widescreen HD LED Monitor with VGA & DVI Inputs is an LED-backlit display with a 1280 x 1024 high definition resolution and a 5ms video response time. LED-backlit means that LED lamps are used for light as opposed to traditional CCFL lamps. LED lamps are longer lasting than CCFLs and consume less power. The 1280 x 1024 resolution will display images in fine detail and the fairly fast 5ms response time will play those images smoothly, without dropping pixels in the process as can be expected with slower response times. Cheap IPS with excellent glossy screen and vibrant colors.
I have been a loyal Acer fan since I started buying computer displays. I absolutely ADORE glossy screens because I feel they make colors more saturated and pop. This sentiment is, sadly, not shared by the enthusiast community and therefore glossy screens have practically become extinct. Therefore, if you're looking for a glossy screen, you basically can't be too picky about the specs and some boxes will be left unticked. The H226HQL is actually REALLY excellent for its price-point because it uses a flicker-free (non-PWM-dimming) panel. That's very rare in this segment; almost an overachiever. The downside is that it's only 21.5" and suffers from the same black crush (AKA what enthusiasts think is an accurate black) that ALL IPS monitors suffer from (VA is even worse, according to online literature, but I have not personally experienced vertical array). I still love it, though, because the colors are simply excellent, and Acer has always been top dog in the value arena. I guess the bottom line is: It's your eyes, and no review can convince you better than viewing in-person. So, either buy from a vendor that's easy to return or go to a local electronics store to look at the display. I bought this monitor sight-unseen owing to past experience with the brand.
