Two young men who have grown up together in a particularly rough neighborhood find their friendship seriously threatened for the first time in their lives--by the challenges of adulthood. Bryon (Craig Sheffer) finds refuge in his new girlfriend Cathy (Kim Delaney) while Mark (Emilio Estevez) descends further and further into the world of crime and illegal drugs, driving an irreparable wedge between the friends. Estevez adapted the screenplay himself from S.E. Hinton's classic novel of teen angst and alienation.

    Good movie for any collection.

    You'll like the story. Brian and Mark are best friends. Brian's mom took Mark in when he needed a place to live. They were inseparable for years doing everything together. Mark is a little wild, Brian more balanced. When Brian's mom is in the hospital the guys run into Cathy, a sister of a kid they call M&M. Brian starts dating her and it's kind of a fight for Cathy and Mark for Brian's attention from there. Brian starts to change,getting a job,spending more time with Cathy, while Mark continues his usual ways. Mark seems to have more money than usual and since Brian and Mark occasionally hustle pool Brian believes Mark when he says that's how he got his money. When M&M runs away Cathy and Brian look for him unsuccessfully. One day Mark takes Brian to a possible place where a lot of runaway kids go. Soon after that Brian and Cathy return to the runaway place and find M&M there sick from drugs and he claims that Mark gave him the drugs. While leaving the hospital after M&M is hospitalized a fight breaks out between Cathy and Brian because Brian won't believe Mark gave M&M the drugs. Eventually Brian searches Mark's room and finds out Mark is dealing drugs. An argument between the 2 turns ugly and Brian throws Mark out of the house. Mark is hurt by that, takes the car and his stuff and the drugs with him and drives fast and A police chase begins until Mark crashes the car and gets arrested. Brian makes up with Cathy afterwards. He feels horrible about the argument and goes to see Mark in jail. Sorry about this but there's other stuff you need to know but I don't like giving everything in the movie away.
