I've converted from the factory-standard wood screws to these types of inserts and bolts in all of my bolt-on neck guitars and basses, You get a much tighter neck-to-body coupling that make the guitar feel more alive with increased sustain. The drill bit included is an unusual size that was not part of my standard drill set, so I was glad the kit included the proper bit. This time around I bought these to help a friend install them on his guitar. He bought a Squire 50's Vintage Vibe tele and tried mine and asked why mine sustained so much more than his. I used a drill press this time; I've used a hand drill in the past with equivalent results. Just be sure not to drill the hole too deep, or you could potentially perforate your fingerboard, though I think you'd have to be pretty hung over to be that unaware. With a hand drill, tape a piece of painters tape to mark the proper depth. Since there are already holes in the neck from the wood screws, the drill bit will self-center with a drill press or hand-drill, so it's hard to screw this up. I think manufacturers should install these at the factory, but I guess most folks are unaware and it's a cost-down measure to use the wood screws. As an aside, I've taken the neck off the body on my tele an put it in my luggage at least once. The inserts ensure the neck aligns again perfectly and there is no chance of stripping the neck holes.Read full review

I can’t believe how easy these threaded inserts were to install my upgraded partscaster neck. I put the neck in position and marked the holes lined up and center punched with the body holes. Used a drill press with the kit provided drill bit. With a mark to prevent drilling through the fret board. Installed the threaded inserts. What a fantastic land tight bond between neck and body. I can easily remove and reinstall the neck. I will use these and order more as I change any and all of my bolt on necks.

The best concept to evenly hold your Strat neck to the guitar body. Just use a piece of masking tape on the drill bit to set your depth. Very easy to use and provides a much better hold than wood screws. I torqued down the four machine screws to 20 inch lbs. when reattaching the neck. Perfect !!

Worth the effort to make the change, no more worrying about the whole strip it out in the neck. Well worth it.
