Condition:
All Z3 models with the cap shown not the flat washer type. The factory fitted seal is poor design and quality and within just a few years from new it begins to break down. This is a problem because as the seal begins to crack and fall apart, air begins to leak into the fuel tank triggering the EVAP warning system (common fault codes for this are P0455 P0456 P0440 P0442), the cracking of the seal would also allow fuel to escape if the vehicle is overturned hence the MOT failure.

Bought his for my e46 318ci and mine was cracked a small amount. And bmw don’t sell the seal anymore! So had to buy this. Works very well and now tightens much sooner. For that reason I am much more confident in the fuel cap being closed and right. Very cheap and took me about 20 secs to install. Pic below is how mine was cracked a bit before installing the new one.
