Underfloor Home Safe - Heavy Duty
This compact underfloor safe is excellent for storing precious items of jewellery, money, passports and private papers and although it is small, it will hold quite a lot of small items. It comes with two keys and is really heavy and solidly made. You will need to make a hole in the floorboards to fit the safe and it can easily be fitted between the joists by a handy person. You will obviously need to cover the area over with a carpet or other suilable floor covering to make sure it is completely invisible to an intruder.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Floorboard safe, good for the money but poorly designed.
The safe arrived super quick, so I'm starting on a positive! It is okay quality, although the body is only 2mm metal (as stated) so can be drilled quite easily. The main problems I have with it are thus; 1) The holes to bolt the safe in to place are on the BOTTOM of the safe! I'm not sure why, as it's designed to fit in between joists with the lip resting on top of the joists, and you need to screw through the SIDES of the safe in to the joists. How can holes in the bottom be any use? Am I missing something? Mine is to go upstairs, and screwing through the bottom through the pre-drilled holes could only screw it to the ceiling of downstairs, which is plasterboard! So anyway I've had to drill holes in the sides so now I'll be able to bolt it to the joists it fits between. If you don't have a decent drill and suitable drill bits you're going to struggle! 2)The measurements in the item description aren't that clear. But basically the length of the outside is 35.75cm. This is likely too long to fit between joists. The width of the outside of the safe is 17.5cm, and that is too narrow to fit between joists! So I'm going to have to bolt an extra piece of wood to the joist first so that it slots snugly in to place. I'm good with DIY, but if you're not, you might have problems. It is what I expected as the pictures didn't show any holes in the sides (I've fitted one in the past and that did have pre-drilled holes in the side, and other more expensive ones on sale on eBay have them too). So I was half expecting to have to do some remedial work before fitting, I bought it anyway 'cos I was sure I could make it work and it is the cheapest available online. I really can't recommend it though because in my opinion the design is badly thought through. Also this should all be clearer in the listing, which doesn't mention where the pre-drilled holes are.
