Good Deal for Tritium of This Size
I ordered two (green & ice blue). This keychain is a good value compared to the others sold on eBay.
The housing is acrylic, or some type of clear plastic. The end plugs, which also suspend the tritium vials inside, away from the edges, are like a hot glue texture of rubbery plastic. In all, it feels sturdy and well made, and I think it will take a hit without breaking as easily as a vial inside a metal housing. The rubbery end caps should also help with shock absorption.
The description and photos are very accurate. They appear to be hand made. The cuts on the ends of the housing are not perfectly square, which is my only complaint, but seeing as they are depicted that way, I expected as much, and am not disappointed at all. If anything, the cuts look better than what are shown.
As far as brightness, the best way I can describe it would be to say that they aren't real bright, but do glow well in the dark or dim light. The green glows about as strong as an old glowstick when they don't seem to be glowing in room or day light, but clearly are still glowing once you put them in the shadows or in the dark. The blue is more faint than the green, but still glows well in dark areas.
I bought one for my keychain, and the other for my phone (it has a lanyard loop) in case I drop them in the yard at night, which happens frequently enough for it to be a concern. Plus I'll be able to find my phone while in the vehicle at night more easily. For that purpose, they will serve their purpose fantastically.
They were packed well. First wrapped in tin foil, inside a small zipper bag, then in a bubble wrap. All inside an unpadded envelope. There were also a couple extra stainless key loops like the ones shown in the pics (they were extras.. the keychains also had one on them). They shipped from Laos to the US in a couple of weeks, give or take.
