Lets be clear: all yoga is challenging. Ashtanga Mysore Yoga (Kino McGregor's particular passion) is especially so, not least because it relies heavily on self-directed practice for progress rather than the more usual 'led' class format. As such, other than with intermittent adjustments by the teacher, you're largely on your own, your own taskmaster, your own pacemaker. You sink or swim entirely by your own efforts. If you don't progress, if you 'fail', there is no one to 'blame' but yourself. The yoga becomes a tantalising, sometimes mocking, mirror to your beliefs about yourself, and sometimes you might not like what you see. At some point on this journey you will come up hard against your own commitment, perserverance, self belief, and physical stamina. It hurts. Do you carry on, or do you take the easy option and let it all quietly slide away.Thats where I was when this book found me. Kino McGregor has 'walked the talk' that fills the pages of this book. She has been where I was and has not only found the strength to break on through but has found a depth of passion to turn that strength into words that inspired me, and probably many others who I cant speak for. I was deeply moved. Why? Because deep down I know I need this yoga to get beyond my self imposed boundaries and achieve something in my life. You too can do the same. Buy this book.

  • Clear guide to Ashtanga yoga practice

I recently started ashtanga yoga. I have found this book gives a clear guide to the asanas and gives variations to allow for those new to the practice. There’s a good guide at the back of the order of the asanas in the practice. My only complaint would be the quality of the photos of the asanas (black & white) and not clear enough to see the small details. I would recommend the book despite this.

  • Yogini is wise.

One of the best modern writers of yoga , enlightened in being aware of the yoga going on around her and in asana. Reading her work reminded me that intuitive masters of yoga are possible in the west , coming from America. She is a yogini that has clearly withstood ages and can receive ages of wisdom. I am very blessed and grateful to have seen a book that she has written.
