    BAHCO 396-LAP LAPLANDER

The Bahco Laplander looks lika a very large folding knife, but is indeed a saw. The teeth are very aggressive and cuts in both directions. One sawblade similar, that I have tested, is the victorinox folding knifes sawblade. This is similar in style and teeth and effectivness, but much larger. Also this is is a coated blade and it also have a locking mechanism for the blade. However the bulk and weight is very manageable and it can for instance travel in your Fjällräven trousers side leg pocket without hassle. It fills an excellent spot inbetween the small victorinox saw and the large bowsaw. I recommend to exchange the rawhide cord to one of similar length that is of bright color so its easy to find if misplaced. The cord also works as a sort of handguard if used so yor hand cannot slip forward onto the teeth.I also recommend using gloves and be careful when folding it back together so not to cause injuries while out in the bush, also try keep the cord away from the teeth while unfolding it. I found this for an excellent ebay price, half of what I could find it for around my parts, so I actually got 2, and keep 1 as a spare for the future. Good luck out in the bush and woods! Best regards, Johan

Too expensive... could be better quality for that money

The blade is very thin and weak to be a bushcraft saw. I have seen many similar products, often with a better blade for a much lower price. I believe Bahco is playing on its name to get more money. Standard gardening foldable saws offer more reliability, solidity and durability.

  • Lightweight with great features.

This folding saw was recommended by several people online so I thought I'd give it a try, they said the black coating was a low friction coating so the first few cuts wouldn't be too great until the coating wears off the teeth, but then it would be like a hot knife through butter. My first test was on a length of 2 inch by 1 inch beech, which is a very hard wood, and it flew through. I'm looking forward to seeing how it deals with normal use on softer woods after the low friction coating wears off the teeth. Another good feature about the Bahco 396 Laplander is the way the blade locks closed as well as locking open, a good safety feature for those with small kids. After using this saw a few times, I wouldn't even consider any other folding saw, there is a reason this version is issued to NATO, which in its self is a good indication of quality. It fits in a pocket nicely, has a comfortable soft grip handle and it's also light weight. As far as downsides, I'm struggling to find anything at all, maybe (and this is just a personal preference) but maybe the blade could be a little bit thicker, it's only about a milimetre thick but highly unlikely to jam and bend on the forward stroke. All in all, an excellent tool for anyone from gardeners to outdoor survival experts, highly recommended.

  • Gardeners and campers friend

I love the fact that this tool is so compact like an oversized pocket knife keeping hands free till needed .It is light ,easy to hold ,sharp and very handy when working around the garden.I also like the safety aspect being able to place in pocket or back pack with the cutting blade in the closed position. Faults ,can't find any.

  • Great Pruning Saw

This is my second purchase of these classic and well known pruning saws, simply because I thought I'd lost my original (which I hadn't in the end and which is still going strong after years of use). They are sharp, well made and cut quickly and easily. The only thing I would improve would be to add a bright strip of colour to the handle, as they are easy to misplace being the colour they are.Highly recommended.

  • Definitely the saw to have

It certainly cuts well and is comfortable to use. My only criticism is the overall build quality seems a little flimsy compared to older ones. Good product and at the top end of the price band.

  • Great saw

I love my new saw! Only wish I had bought one sooner. Very nice to hold and very sharp, very impressed! the leather strap is a good idea and useful. Would definitely recommend this product-I’m a very happy gardener/customer. 😊👍

  • Good Quality

Literally like a knife through butter on branches that are a bit awkward to get to with a bow saw. Nice non slip grip and leather wrist strap. Just remember to clean off with a little spray after use. Excellent quality.

  • Great pruning saw.

Brilliant handy saw, cuts easily through tree stems. So far have cut up to 4" diameter with no problems. Handle easy to grip and locking mechanism great. Leather lanyard a bit of a waste but very easy to remove.

  • A cut above, and below

forget all the others out there, if you want to do some serious pruning in your garden or take to the great outdoors and have the need for cutting firewood this little saw is the answer, well made, well priced and well designed, this is the third I've bought, i work in the horticultural industry and wouldn't contemplate buying any other
