Celebrate your next special occasion with the Noritake Somerset fine china collection. This is a vintage Noritake china set, which features an ageless floral design and elegant gold trim along the edges of the dishes. The pattern on this collection has been meticulously hand-painted, using food-grade ceramic glazes. The design pattern consists of a gold circle in the center bordered by a spray of roses and foliage, which form a ring around each plate, saucer, bowl, lid, and cup. The center of each piece is stark white, giving the dishes a look of quiet elegance. The basic pieces in the Noritake Somerset china collection are all of a standard size. The dinner plate has a diameter of 10.5 inches while lunch plates measure 8.25 inches across. Bread and butter plates are 6.25 inches in diameter, and saucers are 5.5 inches measured across the middle. The delicate footed cup is 2.15 inches tall with a diameter of 4 inches measured at the rim. The sugar bowl is 2.5 inches tall without the lid while the creamer is 3 inches measured from base to spout. A large serving platter is 13.5 inches long and 10.25 inches wide while an oval serving bowl measures 9.88 inches long, 7.75 inches wide, and 2.5 inches in depth. The Somerset dinnerware collection is one of Noritake’s popular vintage china designs. Based on the numeric designator 5317, this collection was the 17th china design created and produced in 1953 by Noritake. The predecessor company of today’s Noritake was established near Nagoya, Japan in 1904. This was the same year it started selling its products in the U.S. Discontinued or retired designs like the Somerset collection quickly become collectibles.
