Hygiplas timer
This is a great little timer which I use both professionally as a chef and in the home. The controls are simple to use with a precise countdown that can be switched between minutes/seconds and hours/minutes via a little switch on the back. The back has good strong magnets plus a clip that can be used to attach to clothing or as a stand. The alarm is loud enough to be heard for any situation that I have had. Works but it is clonky!
I had one before and it worked really well. Because i dropped it and broke the tab on the back,i bought this new one. I was dissapointed that it doesnt have hours and minutes function,only minutes. The magnet does not seem as strong as the previous one and the new shape is deeper and a bit heavier. It works but its not as easy as the old one used to be. Having a good time in the kitchen ... or anywhere else!
My last two mechanical timers both failed after little use, so I decided to pay a little more and go for electronic/digital instead. We have come to expect our (Chinese) domestic goods to be inexpensive, but this can be at the cost of quality and reliability, and it is my hope that cheap electronics will prove to have a longer life expectancy than cheap clockwork with plastic components. This Hygiplas timer looks good, feels robust and is easy to use and accurate with a choice of 19hr 59min or 99min 59sec countdowns (or, alternatively, countups from zero). The alarm beep is loud and persistent. I use the magnet on the back to stick it on the fridge for storage and use it freestanding when I'm cooking. Battery life (one AAA) may be an issue, since the display is permanently visible, but so far everything about this product is entirely satisfactory and it feels like a great choice.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Clever, lightweight and easy to read
Bought this hygiplas timer as a replacement for one we had for years and it wasn't until I went to write this review that I 'clocked' that you can switch it to mins & secs. It arrived displaying hr/mins and, not reading the instructions/looking further, thought - ah, wasn't what I expected but oh well. Am now delighted and glad a went to write a review! Bought this for my wife as she is obsessed with achieving the perfect poached egg. Our cooker timer only times full minutes so she needed one that counts down in seconds.
