Great vs The Cost
Tool worked perfectly.. Cut the threads like a champ, couldn't have asked for any better. I used the method of one full turn, then half a turn counter clockwise till I got the depth that I needed. Cleaned the threads with compressed air, and ran the tap a few more times, just to make sure. This is clearly a good tool, and just because it's affordable, doesn't mean it's cheap or defective. Purchase with confidence!

Same product you can get at any hardware store. The upside is I could order online, and save all the running around to different stores that may- or may not have it in stock. In this case, the convenience was worth the wait time.

4-40 Irwin Tap
It is not the best made but not the worst, a good tap that serves it purpose and keeps me profitable. I do a fair amount of hand tapping in 6061T6. You will want to use a tapping fluid like Alumatap for best results. Would I buy another? Yes. I live in an area were you say "4-40" in the hardware store and they look at you like you arrived from Mars. This is farm country and the smallest thing they stock is 1/4-20. I have a few Irwin tools and they have always done the job and mail order is how you get them here.
