Types of garden saw
- Bow saw – Designed for cutting green wood or sawing logs to size, some models include a built in handle for extra comfort
- Pruning saw – Ideal for slicing thin branches or shrubs whether dry or wet. Models include a d-handle for increased comfort or a regular straight handle
- Handsaws – Popular for sawing through big branches, thick logs and tree trunks
- Chainsaws – Looking for extra power to slice up some logs or saw down a tree? Chainsaws come in both electrical and petrol powered models, helping out with heavy-duty jobs
Different features of garden saw
Each style of saw has a range of different features, which may include one or two of the following:
- Fixed-blade – Blade and handle, simple. Some models, including the pruning saw and wood saw, make use of cases to protect the blade
- Foldable – Ideal for transporting and include a safety lock to stop the blade from unwantedly opening and closing. Many pruning saw models fold away
- Telescopic – Some saws have a built in extendable handle, allowing you to reach high branches by adjusting the length of the shaft
- Curved and straight edge – To allow for a smoother cut and more ergonomic feel
- Soft-grip – A focus on comfort is provided with a soft grip to make your sawing experience as pleasant as possible

Maintaining your saw
- Keep them clean – The teeth in your saw may clog, leading to it not working as well during its next use
- Sharpening your saw – Some saws come with resharpenable teeth, some don’t. If your saw has hardened teeth and they become blunt, you won’t be able to re-sharpen them so you may need to replace the blade.
