NotesHistory of the Grateful Dead has been expanded and remastered. It now includes 4 bonus tracks, a 16 page booklet with restored photos and artwork, and rare live renditions of their music.
One of the best early Grateful Dead CD's, in many ways.
The songs were selected and recorded by Owsley (Bear) one of the first members of the Dead family and sound engineer in the early days. It is an HDCD and the sound quality is excellent especially considering the age and the live recording. But then again, the Dead did very little excellent work in the studio. I'm somewhat prejudiced because of my respect for Bear and the Grateful Dead music of this period. Pigpen is here along with all of his heart and soul. Contained are 2 good versions of Smokestack Lightnin' and an excellent version of Black Peter. This CD should be part of every Deadhead's collection.
