First film of Les Nuls, The City of Fear is a joyous, slightly crazy mess, in which we find everything that amuses the former troublemakers of Canal in the cinema. Absurd humor, strong tributes to Monty Python, and especially to ZAZ (Zucker, Abrahams, Zucker, to whom we owe all, or part, of the series of Is thereâ€¦), and an avalanche of gags succeeding one another to the point of overdose. This is the recipe for an unfinished but nice film, and at times downright hilarious. Multiplying parodies (thriller, horror film, musical, everything goes, except perhaps the western) and diversions (until the last moments of the end credits), Les Nuls easily makes us forget the weaknesses of a pretext scenario.
