An all rounder album for those interested in music. Its a shame that no lyric sheet was included. The words are sharp poetry. The story of the rich man who only wishes to be a happy tramp is excellent. Soldier and the title track are messages relevant today. Beyond the diversity of tunes, we have the multi tracking of guitars. Every serious guitarist should listen. The slide guitar work and the chords structures are not common. The engineering and production is as fine as it could be. Released at a time when Hendrix was doomed to die this takes skilled guitar work and lyrical content to a new level. I was gifted this album back in 1970 and although music fan of almost every genre this is the most played album of my collection ever. I loaned the vinyl out a decade back and it was never returned so I had to listen on CD, but the vinyl is richer warmer and pleasing to the ear. IF Bob Dylan wrote these lyrics he would be ultimately confirmed a god on earth if Hendrix played the guitar on this LP he would have been seen as truly progressive. Backed by just bass and drums this record is credited with starting Grunge. Don't let that put you off if not a fan. It is progressive rock. It is blues variant. It is straight pub rock. It is story telling at its musical best. IF you want to be a musician, no matter what style or type listen to this. Invest time and soak it up. I have been a fan of Tony McPhee and the Groundhogs for nearly 50 years. A masterpiece.
