This CD IS musical "Honey"! It becomes Sweeter, AND SWEETER, EVERY TIME I listen to it!!!
I AM OH SO gratified AND truly honored to be the first person on eBay to review the latest CD release from Katy B entitled, "Honey” (Label: Virgin EMI, Catalogue Number: CDV3146, Barcode (UPC): 00602547742810, Release Date: 04/22/2016). This CD is another GIANT STEP in the continuation of Katy B's musical "mission". It is a collection of collaborations that is both, harmonically and thematically SO smooth AND natural. These songs run together to form a beautiful musical "journey" through a magical wonderland of sound. MY “TAKE” ON THE TRACKS : Track 1: "Honey" - This song is just SO sweet in SO many ways, it might just be the greatest "lead-off" track of any musical set I've ever heard. It REALLY sets the tone for the whole CD, and forms a perfect set of "bookend" songs with the final track, "Honey (Outro)". Track 2: "Who Am I" - This is an "anthem" song of sorts, AND a great love song, as well. Track 3: "So Far Away" - This is a smooth song with a great beat. It gives Katy a chance to show her range and her alluring vocal smoothness. It's deceptively "danceable" and really upbeat! Track 4: "Chase Me" - This is just a BEAUTIFUL song with incredible harmonies provided by two very well matched female voices (Katy and Sasha Keable) that mesh so well it creates vocal "honey". And, after all, that IS really what this whole CD IS ALL ABOUT! Track 5: "Lose Your Head" - This is a dance-floor-bouncing song, with "sick" beats that are "Low”, “Slow" and VERY steady. – I really do lose my head every time I hear this song. Track 6: "I Wanna Be" - If there is an "anthem"-type love song on this CD, this IS it. It's a heartfelt love song, AND, YES, it's very "danceable" with great bass and snappy beats and a killer “synth” organ line! - A GREAT SONG FOR YOUNG LOVERS! Track 7: "Calm Down" - Turn this song up(!), and I think you'll understand why I believe that Katy B has one of the most soulful voices of any of the young women in her class of contemporaries. Track 8: "Heavy" - This track just might be my favorite, because it has such a futuristic "sound-scape" that, I think, plays so well with (and off of) the "heaviness" of the lyrics, and the vocal rendering that Katy B delivers to it. It's just such a "different" song, like I've never heard before. It's novel, yet fresh, without being "quirky" or "oddball". Track 9: "Turn The Music Louder (Rumble)" by KDA, featuring the phenomenal voice of Katy B. This is THE "dance" song on this CD. - It REALLY IS a great example of the current state of the sounds of the London "Club Scene"! Track 10: "Dark Delirium" - What an incredibly beautiful song! ... From the vocal harmonies to the beautiful piano lines and the harp solos overlaid on a great set of beats and bass lines. I truly dig just how “BIG” a sound "picture" this song presents. Track 11: "Water Rising" - This song is a completely complimentary and a great musical "follow-on" to "Dark Delirium". Once again, the "sound-scape" engineered for this song is SO conceptually advanced, it's amazing that the producers were able to pack so much sound into a single song AND make it sound so smooth, So Beautiful, SO AUDIOPHONICALLY PLEASING! Track 12: "Dreamers" - A truly inspiring song, bordering on being an "anthem" song, with a powerful message about not being afraid to just be a "dreamer" of ALL things good and beautiful. Track 13: "Honey (Outro)" - What a great way to end a collaborative collection like this. It's a proclamation of completion and a great musical "fade-out" for the whole set of songs on this CD. SOME FINAL THOUGHTS : Katy B shares co-writing credit on every single song on this CD! ... She is not just a singer, she IS an artist that works AND plays well with ALL the other incredible artists she comes into contact with. Katy B IS a true artist (in every sense of the word) who is bringing all of us along on her "ride" ... without any judgments or prejudices attached. I have to say that it has been at least 12 to 15 years since I have received this much enjoyment and satisfaction from any single CD purchase. Katy B has brought me to a whole new level of appreciation of just how important music is to my whole life.
