By October 1969, things were radically different for The Monkees. THE MONKEES PRESENT also includes an exclusive bonus 7" vinyl single for "Good Clean Fun (Alternate Mix)" b/w "Mommy and Daddy (Mono Mix)" in a picture sleeve.
While overall, not quite as good as the other Monkees' 3-cd-plus-vinyl-45-single set Instant Replay, (there is some overlap between the two), this set is a great example of what the Monkees were doing musically after their tv series ended. Strictly merited as such, with the 3 remaining Monkees contributing(Tork left the group), it's as good as any American pop recorded at the same time. The three guys here each offer sharply contrasting styles, with lots of pioneering country-rock from Nesmith, smoothly crooned boy-girl pop ballads with '60's soft rock production from Jones(and a "Mr. Kite"-beater called Ladies Aid Society), and finally, the psychedelic theatrics of Mickey Dolenz. As said previously, this melange of styles works better on Instant Replay, but if you have that set and want more, this is your next purchase.
